Description
A+ In Home Tutoring, Inc., will provide individual or small group tutoring services to eligible students in Title I Schools not meeting AYP. Tutoring will take place on-site (schools) or off-site (in-home, library, church, community center) for no less than 1 hour per session.

Recommendation
That the School Board of Sarasota County approve the agreement with A+ In Home Tutoring, Inc., to provide SES tutorial services.

11. APPROVAL OF THE ADDENDUM TO CORRECT AND AMEND THE CONTRACT BETWEEN A+ IN HOME TUTORING, INC. AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY TO PROVIDE SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATION SERVICES (SES)
Description
A+ In Home Tutoring, Inc., has signed and completed the SES Contract Addendum to reflect its agreement and has indicated the minimum number of students it is requiring for service at each school site based upon new regulations from the Florida Department of Education.

That the School Board of Sarasota County approve the agreement addendum with A+ In Home Tutoring, Inc., to provide SES tutorial Services under the Florida Department of Education.

14. APPROVAL OF THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA, BY AND THROUGH THE SARASOTA COUNTY TECHNICAL INSTITUTE AND THE LITERACY COUNCIL OF SARASOTA, INC.
Description

In an effort to improve the provision of adult education services offered in Sarasota County, The School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, by and through its Sarasota County Technical Institute(SCTI) enters into this contractual agreement with the Literacy Council of Sarasota, Inc. (Literacy Council) through which the Literacy Council will provide tutoring services for adult students at the SCTI Newtown campus.  This Agreement shall be effective September 19, 2011 through June 4, 2012.



Recommendation

That the Agreement between the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, by and through the Sarasota County Technical Institute and the Literacy Council of Sarasota, Inc. be approved.

15. APPROVAL OF THE AFFILIATION AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA ('SCHOOL') AND MACY'S FLORIDA STORES, LLC ('RETAIL STORE')
Description
The school offers to enrolled students an on-the-job training program and Macy's Florida Stores, LLC, manages a retail store.  The school desires to provide to its students a learning experience through the application of knowledge and skills in retail operations in actual situations in a retail facility, and the retail store has agreed to make its facility available to the school for such purposes. 

Recommendation

That the Affiliation Agreement between the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, ("School") and Macy's Florida Stores, LLC ("Retail Store") be approved.

16. APPROVAL OF THE AFFILIATION AGREEMENTS BETWEEN THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA, AND VETERINARY/ANIMAL CARE FACILITIES
Description

The School Board offers to enrolled students a Veterinary Assisting Program and the Veterinary/Animal Care Facility manages a Veterinary Animal Care Facility.  The School Board desires to provide to its students a clinical learning experience through the application of knowledge and clinical skills in a Veterinary/Animal Care Facility and the Veterinary/Animal Care Facility has agreed to make its facility available to School Board for such purposes.

Humane Society of Sarasota County, Dr. Don's Mobile Vet Service, Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Coast Sanctuary, The Humane Society of Manatee County, Clark Road Animal Clinic, Ashton Animal Clinic, and Bayshore Animal Hospital, Inc.



Recommendation
That the Affiliation Agreements between the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, and Veterinary/Animal Care Facilities be approved.

GRANTS

17. APPROVAL OF THE SCIENCE SHOWCASE GRANT TO THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF SARASOTA FOR ALL SCIENCE CLASSROOMS
Description
NON-COMPETITIVE: Grant funds of $20,527 will provide professional development for science teachers in inquiry-based science and will provide for the creation of a Science Fair database.

Recommendation
That the School Board of Sarasota County approve the Science Showcase grant.

18. APPROVAL OF THE SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT INITIATIVE FOR TITLE I SCHOOLS
Description
ENTITLEMENT: Grant funds of $200,352 will be used to provide services for low-achieving students in Title I schools, including intensive instruction and after school tutoring, as well as for parent involvement activities and professional development opportunities for teachers.

Recommendation
That the School Board of Sarasota County approve the School Improvement Initiative grant application.

FIELD TRIPS

19. APPROVAL OF THE BOOKER HIGH SCHOOL VOCAL JAZZ ENSEMBLE FIELD TRIP TO BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ON MARCH 9, 2012 THROUGH MARCH 11, 2012
Description
This an annual competition in which approximately 3,000 students from all over the east coast will participate.  Students will have the opportunity to observe various ensembles.  We are six time defending champions for Vocal Jazz Ensemble and four time defending champions for Jazz Combo.  Students will also tour the Berklee College of Music and have the opportunity to audition for scholarships.

Recommendation
That the Booker High School Vocal Jazz Ensemble field trip on March 9, 2012 through March 11, 2012, be approved.

EXPULSIONS

20. APPROVAL OF EXPULSION CASE NO. 12-016
Description
The student listed in Expulsion Case No. 12-016, is in violation of an accepted Expulsion Settlement Agreement for alternative school placement.  On September 1, 2011, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 12-016, violated School Board Policy 5.32, Zero Tolerance (1)(d), Battery on School Board Employee.  It is the recommendation of the Superintendent that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until June 4, 2012.

Recommendation

That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No. 12-016, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately for the remainder of the 2011-2012 academic year.

Description
On September 22, 2011, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 12-044, violated School Board Policy 5.32, Zero Tolerance and School Board Policy 5.322, Prohibition Against Use, Sale, or Possession of Alcohol or Drugs.  It is the recommendation of the Superintendent that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until June 30, 2012.

Recommendation
That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.071(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, and the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately for the remainder of the 2011-2012 academic year.

Description
On September 29, 2011, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 12-045, violated School Board Policy 5.34(1)(d), Grand Theft.  It is the recommendation of the Superintendent that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until June 6, 2012.

Recommendation
That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, and the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No. 12-045, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately for the remainder of the 2011-2012 academic year.

Description
On September 30, 2011, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 12-071, violated School Board Policy 5.32, Zero Tolerance and School Board Policy 5.322, Prohibition Against Use, Sale, or Possession of Alcohol or Drugs.  It is the recommendation of the Superintendent, that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until October 16, 2012.

Recommendation
That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, and the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No. 12-071, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately for the remainder of the 2011-2012 academic year, the 2012 summer session, until October 16 of the 2012-2013 academic year.

Description

Description

Description
The student listed in Expulsion Case No. 11-465, is in violation of an accepted Expulsion Settlement Agreement for alternative school placement.  On April 28, 2011, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 11-465, violated School Board Policy 5.322, Prohibition Against Use, Sale or Possession of Alcohol or Drugs.  It is the recommendation of the Superintendent that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until August 1 of the 2012-2013 academic year.

Recommendation
That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendations specified in Expulsion Case No. 11-465, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately for the remainder of the 2011-2012 academic year, and 2012 summer session, until August 1, 2012-2013 academic year.

Description

The student listed in Expulsion Case No. 11-356, is in violation of an accepted Expulsion Settlement Agreement for alternative school placement.  On March 21, 2011, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 11-356, violated School Board Policy 5.322, Prohibition Against Use, Sale, or Possession of Alcohol or Drugs.  It is the recommendation of the Superintendent that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until June 15, 2012.



Recommendation
That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No. 11-356, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately for the remainder of the 2011-2012 academic year.

Description
The student listed in Expulsion Case No. 12-011, is in violation of an accepted Expulsion Settlement Agreement for alternative school placement.  On August 25, 2011, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 12-011, violated School Board Policy 5.34(1)(a), Possessed, Used or Sold any Illegal Controlled Substance Capable of Modifying Mood or Behavior.  It is the recommendation of the Superintendent, that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County School until June 4, 2012.

That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No. 12-011, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately for the remainder of the 2011-2012 academic year.

The student listed in Expulsion Case No. 11-504, is in violation of an accepted Expulsion Settlement Agreement for alternative school placement.  On May 11, 2011, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 11-504, violated School Board Policy 5.34(1)(g), Fighting and 5.34(1)(e), Disruption to School Campus.  It is the recommendation of the Superintendent that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until June 4, 2012.

MATERIALS MANAGEMENT

34. APPROVAL OF CLASSIFICATION OF INOPERATIVE EQUIPMENT AND FURNITURE AS PROPERTY TO BE DELETED
Description

The custodians of the property (cost center heads) have certified it to be traded in on new equipment, unaccounted for, not repairable or otherwise inoperable.  Property still on hand after reallocation will be salvaged for any useful parts and then sold at auction. 



Recommendation
That the classification of equipment and furniture, as property to be deleted, be approved.

35. APPROVAL TO AWARD BID #12-0111 FOR VARIABLE FREQUENCY DRIVE MATERIALS AND REPAIR SERVICES
Description

Bids to provide 'Variable Frequency Drive Materials and Repair Services' were received from four vendors on September 27, 2011.  The bid of Bill Gukeisen, Inc., was the best low bid meeting the advertised specifications.  The bid of Hazeltine Nurseries, Inc., was non-responsive to the specifications requiring repairs of all types of equipment using variable frequency drives. This bid is for a period of one year with the option to renew for two additional one-year periods.  The funds for these purchases are contained in the transfer from capital budget allocated to the Facilities Services Department.



Recommendation
That the bid of Bill Gukeisen, Inc., to provide 'Variable Frequency Drive Materials and Repair Services' in an amount not to exceed $60,000, be approved for award and purchase.

CONSTRUCTION

36. APPROVAL OF THE EXCLUSIVE EASEMENT AT VENICE HIGH SCHOOL BETWEEN THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA AND THE CITY OF VENICE
Description
This easement will provide an easement for the force main and sanitary sewer lift station for operation and maintenance at Venice High School.  This easement has been approved by the School Board attorney.

Recommendation
That the School Board grant an Exclusive Easement to the City of Venice, as presented, and that the previously granted Non-Exclusive Easement over the same property be revoked.

37. APPROVAL AND/OR RATIFICATION OF CONSTRUCTION SERVICES' CHANGE ORDER(S)
Description

The Construction Services' Change Order(s) are summarized on the enclosure for ease of review.  These change orders collectively total a decrease of $118,568.94 in gross contract dollars.

Included in these change orders are $118,568.94 credits for Direct Material Purchases; the corresponding Direct Material Purchase Orders of $111,810.32 result a net of $6,758.62 in sales tax savings.



Recommendation
That the Construction Services' Change Order(s) be approved and/or ratified as presented.

38. APPROVAL OF THE ADVERTISING OF THE 2012/2013 AND 2013/2014 SCHOOL CALENDARS
Description

A district committee comprised of school and district level administrators, teachers, members of the classified staff and parents, developed the proposed school calendars for 2012/2013 & 2013/2014 school years.  The proposed calendars are ready for approval to be advertised.



Recommendation
That the advertising of the 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 school calendars be approved as presented.
