GRANTS17. APPROVAL OF THE SCIENCE SHOWCASE GRANT TO THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF SARASOTA FOR ALL SCIENCE CLASSROOMSDescription

FIELD TRIPS19. APPROVAL OF THE BOOKER HIGH SCHOOL VOCAL JAZZ ENSEMBLE FIELD TRIP TO BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ON MARCH 9, 2012 THROUGH MARCH 11, 2012Description
This an annual competition in which approximately 3,000 students from all over the east coast will participate. Students will have the opportunity to observe various ensembles. We are six time defending champions for Vocal Jazz Ensemble and four time defending champions for Jazz Combo. Students will also tour the Berklee College of Music and have the opportunity to audition for scholarships.
Recommendation
That the Booker High School Vocal Jazz Ensemble field trip on March 9, 2012 through March 11, 2012, be approved.

The student listed in Expulsion Case No. 12-016, is in violation of an accepted Expulsion Settlement Agreement for alternative school placement. On September 1, 2011, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 12-016, violated School Board Policy 5.32, Zero Tolerance (1)(d), Battery on School Board Employee. It is the recommendation of the Superintendent that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until June 4, 2012.

The bid of Bill Gukeisen, Inc., was the best low bid meeting the advertised specifications. The bid of Hazeltine Nurseries, Inc., was non-responsive to the specifications requiring repairs of all types of equipment using variable frequency drives. This bid is for a period of one year with the option to renew for two additional one-year periods. The funds for these purchases are contained in the transfer from capital budget allocated to the Facilities Services Department.
